    Class Descriptions:
    3-4 year olds:
Pets--Dogs, cats and other domesticated pet animals. (Erika)
    5-7 year olds
Animal Tales 2: Each week we will tell an animal fable, discuss the lesson, do some kind of movement, talk a little about the scientific facts about that animal and do an art or craft project. – Proposed by Carol
Egypt -- Culture! Hieroglyphs! Pyramids! Mummies! Camels! Need I say more? (Erika)
Grace wants to assist with Egypt class.
Other 5-7 classes are under development. Requests have been for art and science classes
    8-10 year olds
Henry David Thoreau -- I’m thinking of a class based on the five __Henry...__ picture books, exploring the life and ideas of Thoreau (also could be older or younger). -- AMY
The Hobbit--with Peter Jackson’s film version due in December, let’s venture to Middle Earth with Tolkien’s classic. Orcs, elves, dwarves and Gollum...oh, “my precious,” we will explore their character development, as well as their influence on popular culture. (Could be older/include older).--AMANDA
Laura Combs wants to assist with Hobbit class.
Legend of Druidawn--A Learning Arbor favorite returns! Kids really enjoy the class time game play and the creative writing homework this class offers because students’ word count allows them to buy all types of items for their character. This class is designed for anyone; from the reluctant writer, to ones who love to write, to those who love fantasy/sci fi play. __http://www.creative-writing-solutions.com/legends-of-druidawn.html__ ---AMANDA
Laura Combs wants to assist with Druidawn class.
Public Speaking -- Public speaking is a common fear that hopefully Learning Arbor kids can lessen or avoid. By teaching and coaching them using fun topics of their choosing (I will provide the genres), this class will hopefully provide some comfort and confidence with public speaking before the self-conscious, image conscious teen years begin. --LAURA COMBS
Mythbusters--Hands-on science discovery class, modeled after the popular TV series--Sally
    10-12 year olds
Real Science 4 Kids (Can be either Chemistry, Biology, or Physics depending on interest levels). This is based on curriculum of Gravitas Publications: __www.gravitaspublications.com.__ This would be great if we could make the classes 10 weeks sessions if possible-AMY
Red Herring Mysteries Level 1- This is based on the book from the Critical Thinking Company. “Red Herring Mysteries develops students' inferential and deductive thinking skills for more effective reading, listening, and logical thinking. The activities also encourage creative brainstorming and flexible thinking. Given a seemingly contradictory statement, students must practice good thinking strategies and formulate astute "yes/no" questions to help them discover the solution to each mystery. Resolutions are often funny, adding appeal to the activities” -Laura Combs
    12+ year olds
Election 2012: Understanding the Issues – In this class, we will look at the history and the basic terms and background on major foreign policy issues, such as the economy, foreign affairs, environmental and energy policy, etc. Then students will break up and research the different positions on the issues and share them with each other. They will switch sides each week (that is, one week studying the conservative/Republican plan, the next week the liberal/Democratic view) to give everyone a chance to look at the election from both sides. The issues under discussion will be policy issues (tax reform, health care proposals, regulations, etc.), not religious or personal values-related issues (such as abortion or gay marriage, etc.) –Proposed by Carol
Introduction to Philosophy –Each week will be spent on one of the five classic branches of philosophy: Ethics, Metaphysics, Epistemology, Aesthetics, and Logic - Proposed by Carol
Red Herring Mysteries Level 2- This is from the Critical Thinking Company. Red Herring Mysteries develops students' inferential and deductive thinking skills for more effective reading, listening, and logical thinking. The activities also encourage creative brainstorming and flexible thinking. Given a seemingly contradictory statement, students must practice good thinking strategies and formulate astute "yes/no" questions to help them discover the solution to each mystery. Resolutions are often funny, adding appeal to the activities-THERESA
Intellego Science Units - I have all the current science units for grades 6-8 from the Intellego Company. They include the following: Cells and Genetics, Plate Techtonics, Chemical Reactions and Energy, Atomic Structure and Chemical Bonds, Electricity and Magnetism, Disease and Infection in the Human Body, Evolution, and Astronomy. Here is a link to it. __http://www.intellegounitstudies.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3_34__ I would be happy to teach any of these depending on the interest level.-THERESA**
